How do private rooms work? (for guests)

What is a private room?

  • A private room is a room which you can rent without renting the entire property. It could be a room in a private residence or in a vacation rental. Guests have their own room to sleep in, but share some common spaces such as a living room, kitchen and bathroom.
  • Private rooms can only be advertised by owners who have completed our internal validation checks. These require owners to provide us with a government issued ID and proof of their address. We perform these checks to prevent fraud and provide guests with peace of mind.
  • All stays booked online through the FlipKey payment platform are covered by Payment Protection. This means that in the unlikely event that you are prevented or denied access to your private room when you arrive, we’ll offer a full refund for the stay. Look for the green Payment Protection logo.

Will there be someone else staying at the property during my stay?

If the room you are booking is in a private residence, the property owner should be present during your stay. Where there is more than one private room in a property, other guests may be staying there at the same time as you. If this isn’t clear from the listing, you can ask the owner before you book.

Do private rooms have their own bath and shower facilities?

Some rooms may have these facilities, but the owner should give full details in the property description. If you have specific questions, you can contact the owner before you book.
